Albert Harding Page, Sr.

Albert Harding Page Sr., 88, of Farmville, passed away Sunday morning, August 29, 2010 in Farmville. He was born March 7, 1922 in Appomattox County, the last child of the late Thomas and Sally Doss Page. He served his country in the United States Army seeing heavy fighting in Europe during WWII. He was the recipient of numerous commendations and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star "for bravery under fire." Al was a member of the 12th Armored Division, Company C, 43rd Division. He was one of the famous Hell Cats. Al was a respected building contractor who built many residences in and around Farmville and was responsible for the development of Buffalo Heights subdivision. In his later years he operated Page's Cabinet Shop where he spent hours building and repairing furniture and making hundreds of novelties including decoys, canes, whirl-a-gigs, garden benches and life-size bird carvings. He was always on the go with his motorized scooter.Mr. Page is survived by his wife of 60-plus years, Katherine Wilkerson Page; son, Albert H. Page Jr. of Farmville and his grandchildren, Charles Albert Page and wife, Laura of Lynchburg and Melissa Page of Eagle Rock. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 1, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice. Family will receive friends on Wednesday 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home before the graveside service. Memorials may be made to your local American Legion Post.
