Alfred Charles Pezold

March 3, 1942 — October 15, 2016

Alfred “Butch” Charles Pezold, 74, who passed away Sat morning unexpectedly, was the consummate gentleman. On the way to the ER in Charlottesville he insisted on getting out to pump the gas. No matter where he went, he always raced to get there first, and unfortunately heaven was no exception. Much to the chagrin of his devoted wife Patricia. Who loved him more.

Born to Mary Theresa Pezold and Alfred Charles Pezold in Merrick, Long Island, NY on March 3, 1942, brother to Howard Pezold. By age 14, he and his brother owned and operated a row boat fishing station off Whaleneck Drive in Merrick, an early indicator of his life-long love affair with the sea. He reinvented himself several times over, as a drag racer, a gas station owner, a mechanic, a carpenter and a commercial fisherman. It never mattered what he was doing, there was nothing he couldn’t MacGuyver a solution for. He never passed a broken down motorist without stopping to offer assistance, even once fashioning a temporary cylinder for an engine out of an errant Coke can in order to limp a vehicle home.

On Sept 4, 1971 he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Pezold nee Shupin (and proceeded to subject everyone from family to random passersby to annual wedding slideshows from that day forward). Together they formed a nomadic duo, moving every several years whether they needed to or not, first to Yaphank Long Island, next to Newburgh NY, then Bozman Maryland and most recently Farmville Virginia. He is survived by his brother Howard 'Skip' Pezold, and wife Patty, his daughter Danielle, and husband Paddy and two grandchildren Dane and Grace.

He was very concerned about the future of our nation and would ask that in lieu of flowers you please refrain from voting for Donald Trump.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 1:00pm in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Friday morning 10:00-12:00 Noon at the Puckett Funeral Home. Puckett Funeral Home is serving the family. www.puckettfh.com.
