Alvin Pollard Henshaw (85) and his beloved wife Erika Maria Andrescu Henshaw (77), residents of Dillwyn, Virginia, were welcomed into the embrace of their loving Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024. Their departure marks the end of an era defined by love, commitment, and unwavering faith.
Alvin, born on January 13th, 1939, to Mary and Alton Henshaw in Chesterfield County, Virginia, was a dedicated Marine, who served his country with honor and distinction, embodying the values of loyalty, selflessness, and integrity. He possessed a natural talent for music. His singing voice and guitar playing were simply beautiful, bringing joy to those fortunate enough to hear him perform. Beyond his musical gifts, Alvin's commitment to his church family was unwavering, as he faithfully served in various callings, including Branch President, touching the lives of many with his kindness and compassion. He was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, making everyone—blood-related or not—feel like family.
Maria, born on November 4th, 1946, to Ida and Ioan Andrescu in Linz, Austria, radiated warmth and sincerity in all she did. Maria enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially azaleas and roses. Everyone who visited their home enjoyed her pristine yard and vibrant flowers. She was a wonderful cook and loved fixing a plate for anyone who needed one. She held many church callings throughout the decades. Her dedication to her faith was evident through her service and genuine care for her family and her friends within the church community. Maria's genuine smile and inclusive attitude endeared her to everyone she met, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Together, they leave behind a legacy of love cherished by their children, Frank Henshaw, Keith Henshaw (Pamela), Tina Gerber (Jeff Klein), and Dawn Roth (Ron). They are also survived by Maria’s sister, Helena Potts, and her brother, John Andrescu. Their 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren are testaments to the love and joy they shared as a family.
A joint service to celebrate the lives of Alvin and Maria will be held on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, at the Sandy River LDS Chapel in Burkeville, VA, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will precede the service at 11:00 AM. A burial service will take place at Dale Memorial, on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 at 11:00AM.
Though they may have left this earthly realm, the memories of Alvin and Maria will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them. May their souls find eternal peace in the arms of their Heavenly Father.
