Avery Wayne Long, 50, of Rice, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 16, 2012. He was born in Prince Edward County to the late Avery Long and Cora Bates Long. He was always outside hunting, fishing and playing with his brothers and sisters. He met and married Emogean “Jean” in 1985. Together they had two daughters, Cheryl and Angela, and a stepdaughter, Jeannie. Most of his younger years he worked tobacco with his family and later he worked as a tree sheer operator and was considered the best by his peers. His other favorite pass time was spending time with his grandchildren, Madison and Avery Ray Etherton and Courtney Looney and waiting for the arrival of Aiden Wingold. Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Cheryl and Angela; stepdaughter, Jeannie Looney; mother, Cora Reynolds (Donald); sisters, Catherine Martin (Freddie) and Barbara Atkins (Wayne) and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Avery Long, brothers, Timothy Long and Robert Bayne. Funeral services were private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association
