Barbara Goodman Burton Hardinge, age 81, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 4, 2017, in Farmville, Virginia.
Barbara was born on April 11, 1936, in Petersburg, Virginia. She attended Petersburg High School and graduated from Westhampton College, University of Richmond in 1957.
She moved to Farmville, Virginia in 1975, and worked at Pino’s Pizza (where all referred to her as “Mom”), Clark’s Pharmacy, Charley’s Waterfront Café, and Doyne-Burger Funeral Home. She was an avid bridge player and member of many bridge and duplicate clubs, a mahjongg club, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Garden Club.
She is survived by her children Charles Albert Burton of Wadesboro, North Carolina; Nancy Lloyd Burton of Franklinton, North Carolina; David Craddock Burton of Montross, Virginia; Andrew Lee Burton and Kathryn Burton Jefferson, both of Farmville, Virginia; two nephews, 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Charles Howard and Esther Faison Goodman, her sister Jane Goodman Peckham, her son Jonathan Stuart Burton, and two husbands, Ben Albert Burton II and Harold Hardinge, III.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. A Mass service will be held Wednesday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church with lunch following in the Fellowship Hall.
