Billy Gene Spillman, Sr.

Billy Gene Spillman, Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2011. He was born August 6, 1948, the son of Alice Guinn Spillman and the late Charles W. Spillman. He was a loving husband, father, granddaddy, son, brother, uncle and friend. His wife was his queen since high school and they had a long, loving relationship for nearly 45 years. He was always more concerned with others needs rather than his own. He was loved by his family, friends and strangers. He touched many lives, including his doctors, nurses, chaplains and all those involved in his care at Farmville Hospital, Lynchburg General Hospital and MCV Hospital. He played and coached baseball and softball, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of Square Hunt Club since he was a young man. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and his grandchildren. He loved having family and friends around, including his beloved dog, Abby. He was the owner of Spillman Construction Company, a small family business, for more than 20 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Singletary Spillman, his son, Billy Spillman Jr. and wife, Kim; his son, Charlie Spillman and wife, Tiffany; his grandchildren, Erin, Hunter, Shannon and Lindsey Spillman and was looking forward to his first great-grandchild in November. He was also survived by his brothers, Terry, Scotty and Denny Spillman; and a sister, Susan S. Pembelton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia A. Harris. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 22, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 4 to 7 p.m. at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospitality House at MCV Hospital or to the American Heart Association.
