Mrs. Byrd Wootton Garnett of Rice, passed away suddenly on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009.
She was born Aug. 14, 1919 in Burkeville, VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edgar Wootton, Jr. and Annie Carter Wootton. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Watkins Garnett, Sr., and three sisters; Ella Wootton Gammon, Sadie Wootton Brightwell and Martha Wootton Timberlake.
She is survived by two sons; James Watkins Garnett, Jr. and his wife, Sondra of Rice, and Dr. Lockett Wootton Garnett and his wife, Holly of Richmond, her grandchildren; Philip Thomas Garnett and his wife, Lindsey, Nathaniel Watkins Garnett and fiance, Jennifer, James Charles Garnett, Sarah Garnett Winks and her husband, Jonathan and Amanda Lockett Garnett, three brothers, Capt. (ret.) James C. Wootton of Fla., Robert M. Wootton and his wife, Frances of Burkeville and Dr. Percy Wootton and his wife, Dr. Jane Pendleton Wootton of Richmond, and two sisters, Rebecca Wootton Edwards and Ruth Wootton Fraker both of Richmond and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Garnett graduated from Mary Washington College. She taught at Mill Creek School in Nelson County in1940. She also taught at Green Bay School and Rice School, all in the 1940s.
She was a longtime member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church. She was a choir member, Sunday school teacher, Elder and Clerk of the Session. She also served on the Council of the Presbytery and was President of Women of the church.
She was devoted to her family, Church and her many friends.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 10:00AM at Jamestown Presbyterian Church with interment at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7:00-9:00PM at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Jamestown Presbyterian Church.
