Curties Lee Yoder, born October 2, 1937, in Kalona, Iowa and went to be with Jesus, June
19, 2024, at his home. He was 86 years old and was the son of LeRoy M, and Elmina M. Yoder.
He is survived by his wife Fern Arletha (Knechtel), who he wed on January 15, 1957, in
Sarasota, Florida. They celebrated their 67 th anniversary this past January. He was a member
of Trinity Church, Prospect, Virgina. He accepted Jesus at a revival meeting with Evangelist
Howard Hammer and was baptized at Lonetree Mennonite Church in Iowa, at the age of
thirteen. His Christian faith was a guiding foundation in his life choices.
He enjoyed fishing, oil painting, gardening, BBQing and traveling to see family. He also
spent time with his children and grandchildren while watching them play baseball, basketball,
barrel racing and other numerous activities. It was special that he was able to attend many of
the baptisms, graduations, weddings of his children and grandchildren. He built each of his 17
grandchildren a wooden rocking chair.
He spent his childhood in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana, living and working on farms. When he
was fourteen, his family moved to Florida, where he learned to work in construction. Around the
age of thirty, he moved his family to a farm in Missouri. While there, he had a beef cattle/fat hog
operation. He also worked as a building contractor and built numerous homes on the lake of the
Ozarks, while enjoying the benefits of the lake by swimming and boating. Later he built homes
in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virgina. He retired in 2004.
The last number of years he and his wife have enjoyed visiting family and friends while
spending time in Florida over the winter months and planting and caring for their flowers at their
home in Prospect, VA.
He leaves behind two daughters: Cynthia, wife of Ben Zook of Pamplin, VA, Bonnie, wife
of Jay Stoltzfus, Prospect, VA, two sons: Rodney Yoder, and wife Valerie, of Paradise, PA, and
Loren Yoder, and wife Donna, of Reading, PA along with 17 grandchildren and 33 great-
grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by one infant son, Randall, and an infant
granddaughter, Krista Stoltzfus.
He also leaves behind three sisters: Juanita, wife of the late Joe Sexton, Charlotte, NC,
Cora Button, Newton, NC, and Katie Winans of Millersburg, IN, a brother, Larry Yoder and wife
Loleta of Milford, IN. He was preceded in death by a brother, Freeman Yoder and his wife Ethel,
of Sarasota, FL.
He leaves behind numerous relatives and friends.
