David Lindsey Simmons, 77, of Cumberland County, Va., passed away on October 31, 2017. He was a native of Lake Charles, La., graduating from Louisiana Tech University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. David did post graduate studies at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, and began his chemical engineering career at the DuPont Chattanooga Nylon plant. He retired from the DuPont Kevlar division at the Richmond, Va., Spruance plant after 40 years of service.
David was an active member of the Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member and a member of several church and community choirs. David and his wife Susan retired to their farm in Cumberland County where he enjoyed hunting, raising horses, training his bird dog Gator and sitting on the porch enjoying the company of friends and family.
David is survived by his wife, Susan Spangler Simmons, married 55 years (also from Lake Charles, La.); three sons: Glenn Matthew Simmons and wife Lyn of Moseley, Va.; David (Brad) Simmons and wife Rhonda of Disputana, Va.; and Brian Trevor Simmons and wife Katherine of Potomac, Md. David was the proud grandpa of five grandchildren: Hannah Simmons Lankford and Russell Braden Simmons of Arizona; and Sara Elizabeth Simmons, David Matthew Simmons, and Amelia Lindsey Simmons of Maryland. He recently welcomed his first great-grandson, Landon Lankford, of Arizona. David is also survived by many cousins in the Lake Charles area. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the John Randolph Fire Department.
The Rev. Dale Brown will officiate a “celebration of life” service at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Farmville, Virginia on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1:00PM. Puckett Funeral Home will be serving the family. www.puckettfh.com.
