Donna Kirk

Donna Kirk, 64 of Farmville passed away Tuesday in Richmond after a long illness. She was born June 22, 1944 in Huntington Park, California and raised in Iowa. She was the daughter of Wesley Dorn and Marjorie Collister. She graduated from Jessup High School in Jessup, Iowa. She then graduated in Nursing from Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa in 1966. Donna married John Kirk in 1967. She practiced nursing until 1998. She volunteered for Madelines house and Prince Edward Elementary School both in Farmville, VA. She played the piano for a Baptist church while her and her husband served at an Indian Hospital near the Grand Canyon. She also took a very active part in dog and cat rescue while they lived in Tuba City, Arizona.
She is survived by her husband, John; her daughters, Amy Cantor of Sparks, MD and Suzanne Schellman of Winchester, VA; one granddaughter, Naomi Cantor and two grandsons, Aiden and Ryan Schellman; her mother, Marjorie Dorn of Independence, Iowa; Aunt Dorothy Dell Richmond of 29 Palms, California; her uncle, Laurence Collister of Garden Grove, California; her sisters, Valarie Smith of Beacon, Iowa, Georgine Dodd of Kalamazoo, Michigan and her brother, David Dorn of Urbana, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 11:00AM at Heritage Baptist Church in Farmville. Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, UNICEF or the Christian Childrens Fund. Puckett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
