Doris Jones Smith

On Saturday, October 25, Doris Ann Jones Smith, age 71, of Farmville passed away surrounded by family and friends. She was the dedicated wife of 40 years to the late Joseph Trent Smith. She leaves behind two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Joseph Harner of Farmville and Betty Jo Smith and Brian Toombs of Charlotte Courthouse. Doris was the sister of Robert “Bobby” Jones of Chesapeake and the late Billy Gene Jones of Farmville. She is also survived by one niece, two nephews and their children. She was stepmother and friend to Iris Clark of Farmville, Jean Biggers of Keysville, and the late Roy Wayne Hutchins of Farmville, and step-grandmother to their children as well as to Brian Keith Harner of Keysville. Doris was grandmother to Jennifer Drinkard Townsend and her husband, Timothy, of Farmville, and great grandmother to their son, Tanner Michael. Doris was born October 21, 1943 to the late Willie Herbert Jones and Annie Mae Sadler Jones. She graduated from Prince Edward Academy, Class of 1963. She worked for many years at Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp., Amelia Dress Company in Farmville, and Brookview Lodge until her retirement. Doris will be remembered for her smiling face, loving heart and courageous soul. Visitation will be Monday night, October 27, 6-8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville. Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 28, 2:00 also at Puckett Funeral Home with graveside service following at Westview Cemetery.
