James Allen McClellan, of Farmville, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 31, 2015. He was born March 16, 1928 in Kenbridge, Virginia to the late John Franklin McClellan and Edith White McClellan. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond and Southern College of Optometry. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Dr McClellan practiced optometry for 55 years, was a past president of the Virginia Optometric Association, a lifetime member of the Farmville Lions Club and member of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church. He loved to play golf, fish, and spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Collmann McClellan; daughters Susan McClellan Daniel (Bob), Elizabeth McClellan Van Dyck, and son John Hampton McClellan (Teresa); step-children, Holly Collmann Garnett, Mark R. Collmann, R. Douglas Schneider, Richard L. Collmann, Sue Collmann Tobin, and Sally Collmann Bass; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren and eleven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Anne Smith McClellan, and son James Allen McClellan, Jr. A funeral service will be held at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church Thursday, February 5 at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dr. Nancy E. Meck officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Farmville. Memorials may be made to the Prince Edward Co. Volunteer Rescue Squad or Johns Memorial Episcopal Church.
