Edna Mae Guyer Driver, 88, passed away on November 17, 2024, in Farmville Virginia. She was born on June 9, 1936, to Marvin Rosco Guyer and Melza Stanley Guyer, in Elkin, N.C. She had two younger siblings, Mary Ann Guyer Adams and Samuel Marvin Guyer, who preceded her in death.
She spent most of her childhood with her beloved grandmother, Minnie Mae Poindexter. She was an excellent student and went on to attend Greensboro Women’s College, where she graduated in 1957. After college, she went to work as a computer programmer and assisted in the development of the NIKE-ZEUS anti-ballistic missile system developed for the U.S. Army. On February 6, 1959, she aided in the successful test-fire of a Titan intercontinental ballistic missile from Cape Canaveral.
She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Robert (Bob) J. Driver, Jr., on September 7, 1957. They traveled extensively during their marriage, from Hawaii to California, to New Orleans and Virginia, as Bob was a U.S. Marine! He retired in 1979, and they moved to Brownsburg, Virginia, where Bob had spent much of his youth and to be near his family.
Edna would become the Postmaster of Brownsburg and retired in 1997, when her triplet grandchildren were born. She was a gourmet cook and a Grand Life Master Bridge player. She also enjoyed playing tennis and knitting. Her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren.
Edna is survived by her son, Robert Jett Driver, III; her daughter, Diana Driver Massey; son-in-law Thomas Keith Massey and grandchildren Derek Ryan, Alexa Rene’ and Sarah Michelle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister, and husband.
