Edward John Micka Sr. of Farmville, married for 60 years to his college sweetheart Sally, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning November 9, 2022, of natural causes. He was born on May 17, 1940, in New York, New York to John and Anna Micka.
Ed graduated from Catholic University of America in Washington DC where he met the love of his life, a farm girl, Salomea Kamykowski. Ed and Sally married immediately after both graduating with BAs in Physics, on June 16, 1962, and had their son, Eddie Jr, the following year and a daughter, Sally Jr, a year later. They stayed in the Washington DC area for 30 years working for various high tech companies providing computer system design and implementation. Sally landed a job with the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria and Ed and kids followed her for four years where Ed worked for the UN but found that he may have missed his calling when he took a job as a math teacher at the American International School his children attended. After returning to the United States and working for a time in their professional fields, Ed and Sally decided to retire early at the young age of 49. They sold their house and moved into a 40-foot motor home and toured the US as “semi-affluent street people” for nine years. After next settling in a house on a golf course near Pinehurst, NC for four years they knew something was missing. They had a small “farmette” outside of Washington DC prior and decided to return to that life with a “backyard barnyard” in Cullen, VA raising goats, sheep, guinea hens, chickens, angora rabbits, turkeys, and the usual dog and cats. Ed and Sally had it all and shared this part of heaven with their children and grandchildren, hosting G&G camps over the summers. After their home in Cullen got a bit too much to keep up, they relocated to Farmville, VA and apartment living. Ed’s life was full of adventures, love, and happiness taking advantage of living to the fullest.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Micka, and his sister Ann Halicek.
Ed is survived by his amazing wife Sally, his son Eddie and his wife Jan from Ocean Isle, NC and their two children Allie (NY, NY) and Johnny (Arlington, VA) and his daughter Sally and her husband Tom Martin from El Segundo, CA, and their girls Kellie (El Segundo, CA) and Lauren (Chicago, IL). Ed is also survived by so many cherished friends and other family members, especially his nephew Frankie Halicek (Lake Worth, FL)
Please plant a tree in memory of Ed to celebrate his life. Celebrating Ed is exactly what he would want.
