Emma Smith Barksdale

Mrs. Emma Smith Barksdale, 89 of Farmville passed away Wednesday morning in Farmville. She was born April 8, 1921 in Cumberland County to the late Hardy Preston and Mary Isaacs Smith. She was the widow of Thomas Irving Barksdale. She was the last of the family of nine children, being preceded in death by her four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Lucy Brightwell and husband, R.D. of Farmville, grandchildren, Crystal Gibson and husband, Nolan of Cullen and Kelly Jean Brightwell of Glen Allen, VA., her great grandchildren, Hunter and Jacob Gibson, step granddaughter, Amy Gelle and husband, Cesar of Virginia Beach, step great-grandchildren, Alexis and Samantha Gelle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Friday, October 1, 2010 11:00AM at Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00-8:00PM at the Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Edward County Rescue Squad.
