Ernest Paul Asal, 91, went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2017, after a brief illness. Born on June 25, 1926, in Cumberland County, Virginia, Paul was the son of the late Ernest Asal and Alice Alma Robbins Asal. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, Paul served on a PGM-31 and the President Hayes in the Pacific Theater.
He married his wife of 69 years, the late Frances Simpson Asal on March 8, 1946. Except for time spent in the service, and the last 16 months that he spent with this daughter in Valdosta, Paul lived his entire life in Cumberland County, Virginia. His greatest love after his family, was his small farm. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Sylvia Higham, Valdosta; grandson, Victor Decker, Valdosta; granddaughter, Angela (Mark) Markley, Monticello, Florida; five great- grandchildren, Logan, Tori, Sarah, Eli and Sam Kercher, Monticello, Florida; a sister, Alice Higgins, Farmville, Virginia, and a nephew, Joe (Janet) Higgins of Farmville, Virginia, and numerous cousins.
Final arrangements will be handled locally by Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at Antioch Methodist Church, Cumberland Road, Farmville, Virginia on Sunday June 3, 2018 at 2:00PM with interment to follow in church cemetery. Family will receive friends starting at 1:00PM at the church. Puckett Funeral Home is serving the family.
