Esther Moore Schwerdtfeger, 69, returned to her heavenly home on March 9, 2015 after a valiant battle with cancer. Esther was born to the late Joseph and Hattie Moore, in Richmond, VA on August 11, 1946. She was raised in a Christian home where the Bible was taught and where the foundations for her strong faith were laid. She came to know her Lord as an adolescent and as an adult introduced Him to all she knew through both words and actions. Esther raised her family with patience, discipline and humility. She taught them those life lessons that no school could teach. She raised her children in the church and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels, leading her youngest son, James, to become a pastor. Esther was an ordained deacon and active member of Oakwood Memorial Baptist Church of Richmond. She served her church and her Lord by serving on several committees, singing in the choir, teaching children’s Sunday school, and serving wherever she was needed. She is dearly missed by her loved ones and friends who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator. Esther is survived by her two sons; Charles Jr. and James, her daughter in law; Rebecca, whome she cared for deeply, her grandchildren; Moira, Ian and Aiden. She is preceded in death by her brothers; Wilbur Moore and Maron Moore. A funeral service will be held at Nelsons Funeral Home, Laburnum Ave Monday, March 16, 2015. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM and 6:00PM - 8:00PM.
