Helen Onysko Baker of Farmville, VA, formerly of Lumberton, NC, was reunited with the love of her life, Charles Frederick Baker, on Sunday, October 8, 2017. She was 91 years old.
She was born June 2, 1926, to the late Nicholas and Mary Onysko, in Jersey City, NJ, and a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School in Jersey City. Upon graduation, she worked in accounting, including serving the Army Quartermaster during World War II. She met her husband to be during wartime and upon his discharge from the Navy, they married in 1946.
The couple would have two daughters, Deborah Lynn and Lisa Ann Baker. From then on, her life was dedicated to her family and raising her daughters. She was an immaculate housekeeper, exceptional cook, skilled seamstress and well-known for her baking, especially her cheesecakes.
In later years, Helen would work in retail and hospitality, as well has manage her husband’s business. Retiring in 2007, the couple moved to Farmville, VA, to be near their daughter and family. They were parishioners of St. Theresa Catholic Church, and upon her husband’s death in 2013, she continued to practice her faith through the visiting mission of the Church.
Helen was predeceased by her soul mate, Charles Frederick Baker; her parents, Nicholas and Mary Onysko; her sisters, Anna Supple and Rose Lavezoli; and her brother, John Onysko.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Debbie Schroeder, husband, Tracey, and granddaughters, Ava and Josie, of Charlotte, NC; her daughter, Lisa Kinzer, husband, Charlie, and grandchildren Sarah, Christian and Rachel, of Farmville, VA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of The Woodlands for 10 years of devoted care of their parents.
A funeral Mass for Helen will be said at 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Farmville, VA.
