PROSPECT, December 20-Jack Reed, 88, of Prospect, died Saturday in his home on December 20, 2014 surrounded by his entire family. Jack was born on December 20, 1926 in Roanoke, Virginia to P.W. and Lettie Reed. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill and Frank Reed. Jack graduated from Jefferson High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While enlisted, he served overseas during World War II. Upon return to the United States he attended Hargrave Military Academy and was awarded a full basketball scholarship to the University of South Carolina-proud Gamecock to the end. Jack worked as a heavy equipment salesman until his retirement in 2004. His job included much travel, along the way building many treasured friendships. During time away from work, he enjoyed most all sports and particularly playing golf; where he met his wife-on the golf course. He has been a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church since his marriage in 1959. He was most proud of his greatest accomplishments, his family and home. He is survived by his wife Cary Reed, daughters Laura Martinette and Jackie Murdock (Ben). His grandchildren are Josh, Jackie Lee, and Josie Howard; Cary Leigh and Jeanie Martinette; and Grace Murdock. Great grand-child is Gunner Howard. A memorial service will be held at Prospect United Methodist Church on December 23, 2014 at 2pm.
