James Elden Lineweaver, Jr. (Jim) died peacefully on November 13, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Linda Carter Lineweaver. He is also survived by his daughter, Carter Lineweaver, and granddaughter, Lily Hazel; and his daughter Jamie Lineweaver, and her wife, Elizabeth Lineweaver, along with their son, Elden Michael.
Jim graduated from Virginia Tech and proudly served his country in the Army Medical Service Corps for over 21 years after marrying his high school sweetheart. Upon retirement from the Army, Jim and Linda made the uncommon for the time decision for Jim to stay at home to raise his girls, a role he fully embraced and deeply cherished. Jim loved hunting, golf, Hokie football, canasta, and his family. He loved watching his girls grow up and become adults, then parents themselves.
Jim’s service in the Army connected him to his two best friends, Dick Donahue and Dale Thornton, with whom he established Ghost Buck Hunting Camp in 1991. Jim’s deep love for family encompassed all the members of this hunting camp and he was incredibly proud to say that this group has come together continuously since 1991, including virtually during the pandemic. Jim always shined at Hunting Camp and when celebrating those he loved.
He loved creating a home in Cumberland for his family and valued the community. Jim took great pride each year in supporting Linda’s role as race director for the High Bridge 5k which benefits The Cumberland Education Foundation. He was quick to support those in need, to lend a helping hand, or offer sage advice to those who came to him.
Jim will be greatly missed as a friend, husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
A graveside service will be held on December 6, 2024 at 10:00am at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Richmond, VA.
