Jean Brightwell Mason

November 11, 1932 — July 7, 2013

Jean Brightwell Mason, 80, of Farmville, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013. She was born in Cumberland County on November 11, 1932 to the late Collie D. Brightwell Sr. and Crawford Guthrie Brightwell. She went to school in Farmville and there she met the love of her life, Forest Mason. They were high school sweethearts and were married for 63 years. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and was very active in Sunday school and loved to send cards out to her fellow parishioners when they were sick or needed a kind word. Mrs. Mason is survived by her husband, Willie Forest Mason; two daughters, Deborah Canady and Katherine Merritt (Robert); two brothers, R.D. Brightwell (Lucy) and C.D. “Buddy” Brightwell Jr. ( Bettie); a sister, Phyllis Druen; grandchildren, Cynthia Workman (Billy), Michele Colding (Doug); honorary grandchildren, Charity and Samantha Merritt; and great-grandchildren, Brandi, Jeremy and Hallye. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to service. Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Centra Southside Hospice for their services especially Robin.
