Johan Hesselt van Dinter died April 2 at his home in Dillwyn, Virginia. He was born June 26, 1924, in Rotterdam, The Netherland. He was part of the Dutch Underground during World War II. After the War he served in the Dutch Colonial Army in Indonesia. He returned to The Netherlands and eventually immigrated to the United States. In the United States he became a minister and later taught high school in Hortonville, Wisconsin. After retirement he became involved in dog breeding. He is survived by his wife, a son living in Texas, a stepson living in Tennessee, a stepdaughter living in Virginia and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Patriot K9s of Wisconsin (www.patriotk9s.com). Patriot K9s is an organization that pairs and trains shelter rescue dogs and veterans with PTSD. The dogs are trained to be service dogs to the veterans. Johan was a supporter of veterans and the comfort that a canine can give to people.
