Mrs. Josephine Absher Thompson, 80, of Buckingham, Virginia, died peacefully at her home February 26, 2013. Josephine was a homemaker and loved taking care of her grandchildren. She enjoyed her flower gardens, fishing, and travel. She was the first female member of the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad and also served as their president. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Roscoe C. Thompson; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dale Thompson (Teresa), Steven Thompson (Becky), and Gary Thompson (Kim); a sister, Darlene Weaver, of Ruther Glen, Virginia; a brother, Garland (Buddy) Absher, of Ruther Glen, Virginia; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, William B. and Ella C. Absher; three brothers, William “Bill” Absher, Franklin “Jack” Absher, and Daniel “Buck” Absher; and by two sisters, Grace Whalen and Margaret Connatser. Visitation for family and friends will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013, at Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad, Post Office Box 87, Farmville, VA 23901, or to the Hospice of Virginia, 202 Clark Street, Farmville, VA 23901.
