Julian Walton Gates

Julian Walton (“Jukey”) Gates, 68 of Rice, passed away on February 8, 2015. He was born in Prince Edward County on April 15, 1946 to the late James Bruce and Mary McNutt Gates. He is survived by his daughters; Holly Coates (Brian) of Wilsons, VA and Kerry Neathery (David) of Crewe, VA, their mother; Kim Gates, also of Crewe, and grandchildren; Hannah, Matthew, Taylor, and Riley, sister; Jean Fowlkes, and brother; Dr. James Gates, Jr. He was a 1965 graduate of Prince Edward Academy and served in the United States Army until 1971. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, father, grandfather, and deacon. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, spending most of his career working for Fort Pickett and the Virginia Department of Transportation. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, VA. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Funeral Home with interment to follow with military honors at Sharon Baptist Church, Green Bay, VA.
