Lewis Shorter Metcalf age 82 of Pamplin, VA passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014. He was born in Darlington Heights, VA on December 31, 1931 to the late John Lewis and Lillian Shorter Metcalf. Mr. Metcalf owned and operated L.S. Metcalf Trucking for 30 years. He enjoyed restoring cars, trucks and farm tractors. He was pleased to win first place on a mustang restoration in The Heart of Virginia Festival. Additionally, one of his restored Mack trucks was featured in the Appomattox Car Museum. This truck was recently purchased by a collector in Canada. A recent great gift for his children and grandchildren was a handmade wood dining table for each. Much of the wood coming from the family farm in Darlington Heights, Angle Grove…his birthplace and lifetime home. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Doss Metcalf, his daughter; Cynthia M. Hargrove of Williamsburg, VA, one son; Jeffrey W. Metcalf (Jennifer) of Williamsburg, VA, one brother; Edward F. Metcalf (Frances) of Moneta, VA, five grandchildren; Roy B. Hargrove IV “Bo”, Katherine A. Hargrove, Kelly P. Williams, Lillian G. Metcalf and Lewis W. Metcalf and one great grandchild; Sofie Williams. He leaves behind a legacy of family and great friends to include the Recycled Teenagers. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 2:00PM at Spring Creek Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Creek Baptist Church, Darlington Heights, VA or to the Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
