Linda Sue Lewis

May 15, 1953 — December 21, 2024

Rice, VA

Linda Sue Lewis (née Roberts), 71, of Rice, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 15, 1953, in Brunswick County, Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of Emma Sue Washburn Roberts and Allen Leigh Roberts. Linda grew up alongside her beloved brother, Vernon Roberts (Peggy Roberts). Linda was predeceased by her niece, Stephanie Roberts Larry, Vernon and Peggy’s cherished daughter.  Linda moved to Farmville to attend Longwood College, where she met the love of her life, George Washington Lewis III (1948–2023). They shared 47 years of a loving and devoted marriage, building a family and a legacy together.

She is survived by her children, Tara Leigh Lewis and George Clinton Lewis (Mandy Lewis), and her treasured grandchildren: Emma Lewis (Tara’s daughter), and George Hudson Lewis and Everly Lewis (Clint and Mandy’s children). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Davis (Jim Davis); nephew, Todd Johnston; his partner, Allie Bassett; and their daughter, Ava Johnston, all of whom remained cherished members of Linda’s extended family.

Linda was an extraordinary wife, mother, and grandmother. She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and serving her community with unwavering compassion and determination. Her journey into law began when her talent and dedication caught the attention of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, who recognized her potential and brought her onto his team. Through that work, Linda found her calling as an advocate for justice, working as a domestic violence victim-witness specialist where she provided critical support and guidance to those in need. Her passion for helping women in crisis grew deeply over the years. This dedication ultimately led her to found Madeline’s House, a domestic violence shelter that became a beacon of hope and safety for countless individuals. Through her tireless efforts, Linda created a lasting legacy of care, empowerment, and advocacy, profoundly impacting the lives of those she served.

Linda’s love for the Lord drove her involvement with the Southside Emmaus community, and she was proud to host her own walk. Her passion for quilting inspired her to co-found Lib’s Place, a craft store that reflected her creativity and love for the arts. After retiring, she found joy in spending cherished time with her grandchildren, doting on her loyal dog, Dixie, tending to her beautiful gardens, and going on trips with the "Beach Bums" multiple times a year.

A funeral service will be held on December 27 at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia. There will be an hour-long visitation at 11am followed by an immediate service at 12pm. A graveside service will follow in the Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery. In honor of Linda’s life and legacy donations are asked to be sent to the Rice Volunteer Fire Department.
