Lloyd Austin Johnson

April 4, 1944 — December 21, 2019

Lloyd Austin Johnson, 75 of Rice, VA passed away on December 21st, 2019. He was born on April 4, 1944 to the late Elihue and Lora Mae Pace Johnson in North Carolina. He was a brilliant self-taught musician, blessed with the ability to pick up any instrument and master it. Chances are, you would hear him playing the guitar or mandolin as you walked up to his front door. His talents extended well beyond music, to include his chosen profession of brick and stone masonry. The bricks and stone he laid and the work he led can be seen across the state of Virginia, Saudi Arabia, Cuba and throughout The United States. Lloyd’s brilliant work will stand as a lasting legacy to his incredible artistic talents in masonry. His favorite pastime was working on his property where he tamed an overgrown piece of land to rival a well-manicured golf course. His attention to detail and diligent persistence are present in his work, home, and musical accomplishments. While he will be truly missed, we are blessed with the workings of Lloyd Johnson for generations to come. A loving and dedicated husband, father and Papa. He is survived by his children, Andrew L. Johnson (Amy) of Dallas, NC, Martin D. Johnson (Carmen) of Clover, SC and Nicole J. Smith (Mike) from Kings Mountain, NC and 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and sisters Ruth McNatt and Linda Melvin. He is also survived by many loved ones including Scott Newsome (Holly) of Powhatan, VA, and many loving nieces and nephews.
