Mallie McKnight Dixon, 93, of Buckingham, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010 at her home Peaceful Valley surrounded by her loving family and caretakers. Born in Baywood on August 31, 1917, she was the second daughter of the late Elijah Commodore McKnight and Pearl B. Hampton McKnight.Mallie was known to be wise, progressive and one of the most admirable and brilliant women of her day. Mallie and her sisters, Pearl and Ella, were among the most noted belles and beauties of Baywood. In her mature years in the offices of wife, mother and friend, she assured esteem and riveted affection by purity and rare singleness of heart.A longtime resident of Buckingham County, Mallie was a member of the Woman's Club of Buckingham. She loved gardening and time spent with her family. She also had been active in the Phenix United Methodist Church.She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Gene Dixon Sr., who was known as a leading Virginia industrialist and business man; a daughter, Jeanne Marie Dixon; and sisters, Ella McKnight Boyer and Pearl Helen McKnight Dixon.Survivors include a son, Gene B. Dixon Jr. and daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Dixon; five grandchildren, Sharon Marie Newcomb, Curtis Dixon Colgate, Guy Bishop Dixon and wife, Julie Kline Dixon, Arch Huddle Dixon and Erica Vail Dixon; and three great-grandchildren, Adelaide McKnight Dixon, Waller Bishop Dixon and Henry Bond Dixon.The family will receive friends at Peaceful Valley, Wednesday, November 17, 5 p.m.-7 p.m.The funeral will be Thursday, November 18, at 4 p.m. at the family cemetery in Peaceful Valley.Memorial contributions may be made to the Phenix United Methodist Church in care of Hilda Johnson, Treasurer, 2232 Scuffletown Road, Charlotte Court House, VA 23923.Anyone wishing to share a special memory about Mallie is encouraged to do so for enclosure in her burial memory box.
