Margaret (Maggie) Phillips Hester

Margaret (Maggie) Phillips Hester, 45, new to Farmville, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was the daughter of James and Glenda Gates of Farmville and the late Robert F. Phillips of Dante, VA. Mrs. Hester was a Virginia native whose career path led her to a job as the Financial Coordinator at Temple University Medical School. While working full time at Temple University she achieved her goal of obtaining her MBA despite the rigors of chemotherapy. She was a dedicated, loving mother to her children and always the life of the party. Survivors include her children, Desmond Hester of Philadelphia, Leyla Hester of Farmville; estranged husband, Andre Hester of Philadelphia; sisters, Roberta Cole and husband Greg of Farmville, Rosemary Guthrie and husband Scott of Wise; brothers, Robert Phillips, Jr. and wife Laurie of Virginia Beach, Jack Phillips and wife Tammy of North Carolina; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Farmville United Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
