Margaret Southall Held Burroughs

Margaret Southall Burroughs, 80, of Charlotte County, went to her heavenly home on January 24, 2020. Margaret was born July 9th, 1939 in Prince Edward County to Ruth and Carter Southall. She felt a calling to become a nurse and graduated from Virginia Baptist Hospital in 1960. While in school she met a young soldier stationed at Ft Myers at a USO dance. Margaret eloped with John Held, Jr. March 1960.
Over the years John and Margaret moved around the world living in Georgia, Hawaii, Taiwan, Germany, Michigan and Kentucky before settling in Virginia. Over the years, Margaret worked in hospitals and extended care and served on ten medical missions to Honduras. No matter where the family was, she was active in her local church.
She was widowed in 1998, and married Bill Burroughs in 2004. They enjoyed music festivals and camping until his death in 2005.
Margaret is survived by her bother Earl (Shirley) and sister Frances (Harold), her daughters Collette Bailey (Walt) and Sonja Tussing (Jerry), her sons Mike (Teresa) and Charles (Melinda). She was blessed with many grandchildren, Chris Tussing, Lisa Finnegan (Patrick), Heather Bailey, Candice Tussing, Julie Bailey, Austin Tussing, Caleb Held, Vincent Held, Chelsea Held and Brittney Held and greatgrandchildren Ayla, Bailey, Ryan and Brent.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or Mt Tirzah Baptist Church missions. A celebration of life will be Saturday, February 1st at 11:00am at Mt Tirzah Baptist Church in Charlotte Court House with lunch and fellowship to follow.
