Marjorie Louise Chism

March 15, 1923 — January 19, 2013

Marjorie Chism, age 89, returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Farmville, VA. She was born on March 15, 1923 in Union Grove, Minnesota to Anton and Ragna Jacobson. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Nyce and son- in- law Lester Nyce of Farmville Virginia and her son, Thomas Chism and daughter-in-law, Kathy Chism of Taylorsville Utah and eight grandchildren, Kevin Nyce, Gregory Nyce, Jonathan Nyce, Kristen Nyce, Derek Chism, Michael Chism, Kelli Chism, Taylor Chism and five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madeleine, Evelyn, Gabriel and Aaron Nyce. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Thomas Chism, and her brothers and sisters. Marjorie left Minnesota and traveled to Washington D.C. in 1941 where she worked as a secretary for the Navy Department. She met and married Harry Chism on June 28, 1943. Marjorie enjoyed working with young children. She was a pre-school teacher at the Forestville Methodist Church and later became a teacher’s aid at the Great Falls Elementary School. She also taught the nursery age children in her church when she was in her 80’s. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with her family and friends. She loved her family and enjoyed getting everyone together for family reunions, picnics and for holidays. Her favorite pet was her cat named Lovey. They were together for twelve years and Lovey was a great comfort to her in her final days. She also enjoyed watching baseball and football and was an avid Washington Redskins fan. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 2012 from 5:00PM to 6:00PM at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, VA. A memorial service will be held at the Funeral Home following the reception of friends. Burial will be the following day at Arnon Cemetery in Great Falls, Virginia at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice, 800 Oak St. Farmville, VA 23901.
