Martha N. Jenkins

Martha N. Jenkins of Burkeville, VA, loving mother and friend to many, entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. She was born April 29, 1929 to the late Carrie Poole and Charles C. Newcomb. She retired in 1991 after 18 ½ years of dedicated service to the residents at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital. She was a member of Crewe Baptist Church and a former member of Burkeville Baptist Church where she served many years as a teacher, Bible drill instructor and in the Women’s Missionary Union activities. In her retirement she enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens and enjoyed reading, sewing and many different crafts.
She is survived by her 2 sons; Melvin Wren Jenkins Jr. (Edith), Bruce T. Jenkins, a devoted niece and husband, Mary Elizabeth and Ronnie Milton, 2 devoted sisters in law; Abby Newcomb and Gladys Newcomb.
She was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 2:00PM at Crewe Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Burkeville. Family will receive friends Friday, May 29, 2015 from 5:30PM – 7:30PM at Puckett Funeral Home.
