Mary Katherine Womack

Mary Katherine Womack, a resident of Worsham, VA, died on Saturday, September 1. Katherine was born on July 26, 1940 in Pittsylvania County to the late Nellie Crews and Edward L. Williams. Katherine graduated from the Community Memorial nursing school and was well suited to this profession as she was always concerned about others even caring for the sick during her own cancer treatments. Katherine married George Womack on August 22, 1970 and raised her two children, Gary and Julie. Katherine was a devoted and caring mother and wife. She lovingly attended to her husband during his long illness and final passing on July 3, 1996. Later she became a dedicated friend and companion to Donald Martin of Farmville, Virginia. Katherine is survived by her children, Gary Womack(Carolyn), Julia Caldwell (John), her brother Lynn Williams (Gina) and two sisters, Elizabeth Calhoun (Clyde) and Ruth Parsons (late Andrew Parsons) as well as her nieces and nephews: Kelly Hammock (Clint), Kimberly Haberlin (Chris), Josh Williams, Carol Fitzwater (Larry), Keith Parsons (Valerie), Doug Parsons (Annette), Mark Parsons (Mona), Shirley Grant (David) and John Thompson (Lynn). The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful friends and family who provided meals and their time to caring for Katherine during her illness. There is no better medicine than sharing a laugh with friends. Katherine will be laid to rest on Monday, September 3, 2012 2:00pm at Douglas Presbyterian church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm at the church on Monday.
