Mary Meade Robertson Edwards, 84, of Farmville, VA, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Byrd” Anderson Edwards Jr. She was born in Danville, VA, to Meade Singleton Robertson and Sallye Blankenship Robertson. A graduate of Marion Junior College, she earned the BS degree in biology in 1953 from what was Longwood College (now Longwood University) and went on to earn master’s degrees both in reading and in education administration. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority at Longwood College and of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for key women educators. She is best known for her devotion to her church and her family, and for sharing with her community a nearly unlimited supply of chocolate Bundt cakes, brownies, and fudge. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Robertson Edwards of Broomfield, CO; her son, Walter Anderson Edwards III and his wife Andee Thompson Edwards; and her two grandchildren, Sarah Meade Edwards and Wyatt Wayne Edwards, of Keysville, VA. She is also survived by a brother, John S. Robertson of Midlothian, VA. A celebration of new life will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, 400 High St., Farmville, with a reception following in the Parish House, where the family will receive friends.
