Mary Susie Watson Powell “Sue”, born June 21, 1924, passed away June 28, 2015, one week after her 91st birthday. Mary Sue was the youngest of 5 children born to William A. and Sudie Overton Watson. She was preceded in death by her 4 beloved brothers: Roach, James Goodrich, Wilson and Samuel and also her 6 older half-brothers and sisters. In 1943 she married Edgar Powell, a Yankee whom she met at a USO Club in Blackstone. After living in New Jersey for more than 30 years, Edgar and Sue retired to Farmville. They were married for 60 years before Ed passed away.
Sue is survived by her daughters Sharyn Abernatha, Debby Greulich (Jim), and Barbara Morris (Jimmy), 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nephew Hunter Watson, sister-in-law Hilde Watson and numerous other family members. She will always be remembered as “Sweet Sue”.
Visitation will be July 10th from 5:30 – 7:30 at Puckett Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Farmville Presbyterian Church on July 11, 2015 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers Sue requested donations to the Farmville Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Third Street, Farmville, VA 23901, the Macular Degeneration Association, http://www.brightfocus.org/ or by mail to Development Department, BrightFocus Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, Maryland 20871 or the Alzheimers Association.
