James Marvin Yoder, 72, of Farmville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25. James was born on August 26, 1939 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Millard and Katherine (Scarberry) Yoder. He died peacefully in the arms of family, with the support of many friends after a long, courageous battle with cancer. James graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy in 1957 and joined the Army where he valiantly served our country until his retirement in 1978. He began his second career in 1980 with the Department of Corrections and retired for the second time in 2002. He loved farming, fishing and traveling with his lovely wife, Vada Ilene Yoder. James was a long-time member of the Maranatha Baptist Church. James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Vada Ilene; their children, Kim Lang Yoder (Le'), Patricia Hurt (Jimmy), Eugene Lester, Wilma Jean Altice (Richard), and Jerry Howerton, as well as 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Brothers Kenneth Yoder (Sharon) of Tornado, WV, Harold Yoder of Georgia as well as boyhood friends Ronny Williams and Bob Blair of Charleston, West Virginia and good friend Don Campbell of Keysville, VA also survive him. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012 1:00pm at the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 27, 2012 7:00-9:00pm at the funeral home.
