Richard Walter Harrison

Richard (Rick) Harrison was born to Karen Ranc Harrison and Walter Harrison on January 26, 1965 in Rhinebeck, NY. He was proceeded in death by both parents, his dad William "Bill" Rosselle, his sister Lee Ann Jones, and infant brother Walter E. Harrison, Jr. Surviving the force of nature that was Rick is his wife, Anita of Prospect, VA; son Rhyan of the home and Christopher Newport University, Newport News, VA; sister Joye (James) Mattison of South Glen Falls, NY, aunt Penelope Truitt of Hyde Park, NY; siblings of his heart, Randy & Maria Russell of Earlton, NY; a slew of cousins whom he adored; nephews and nieces he tolerated and/or spoiled most of time, and pets Angus, Rizzo, Lightning, and Isis the Little Fat B. Rick was released from Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center's employ where he honed the gift of gab and acquired much knowledge with accompanying storytelling, prior to moving to Virginia. Rick then "did" 25 years in uniform as a Correctional Officer, Field Training Officer, and Sergeant at Buckingham Correctional Center on his first "bid" before he went back as a part time Maintenance worker briefly. Given his wonderful abilities in flawlessly repairing anything that came his way, Rick was obviously not being challenged. Past and current BKCC staff -- some of you he enjoyed working with and others? Not so much. You can guarantee he let you know which you were. The good thing is, your status on his scale frequently fluctuated so if you ticked him off at 1:00 you would either be applying Band-Aids to your hindquarters or laughing and sharing a cold soda at 2:30. Rick was a multitalented vat of random knowledge, and he could spin yarns with the best of us all. Until health issues intervened, Rick was a fantastic drummer with plans to usurp Peter Criss if he could only get Gene Simmons to call him first. He could draw and paint quite well, and enjoyed that in his younger days. A wizard in the kitchen, Rick loved to cook and host get-togethers and could fix a mouthwatering and plentiful meal -- but he drew the line at washing dishes. He loved a good joke, and would pull them with abandon whenever possible. Rick suffered greatly in love -- of his professional sports teams. The New York Jets and New York Mets could count on his creative couch-coaching with every play, and he appeared to go into active mourning when Jeff Gordon retired before finally choosing to follow either Chase Elliot or Clint Boyer, depending on who was doing better at that time. Manufacturers of rolling chairs and corded telephones certainly miss Rick's impact on their bottom line. Las Vegas odds had him at 2:1 to bring home Olympic gold in the Office Equipment Fling, as he had well-honed techniques in tearing phones from walls and hurling them in record times with distances bound only by room sizes. He made the event gracefully awe-inspiring to those honored enough to witness it. This super-tough but soft-hearted man cried through chick flicks, entertained babies, listened to your problems and helped in any way he could. Rick was an example of all that a man should be (he could have displayed less stubbornness). There is no comparison to the blessing with which God gave the world when He created Rick Harrison's unique and unforgettable self, and we will forever be richer for having loved him. Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM with a celebration of life at 7:00 at Puckett Funeral Home.
