Robert (Bob) Sydnor Shelton, 85, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
He was surrounded by his family and supported by hospice in his last few weeks.
Bob was born in 1938 in Gretna, Virginia, to Douglas H. Shelton and Alice J. Shelton and grew
up in East Spencer, North Carolina. He graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, North
Carolina.
For forty-six years he lived in Farmville, Virginia where he first worked as a banker and then as
a real estate broker. He was a founding member of Heritage Baptist Church where he held
several leadership roles and was a member of the choir. He found great joy in praising God
through music. Bob had a passion for baking and was well known for his amazing chocolate
chip cookies. He loved sharing the cookies as much as he enjoyed baking them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother. He is survived by his wife of 51
years, Nancy B. Shelton, daughters Meredith S. Miear (Mark) and Jessica S. Banachowski
(Keith) and seven grandchildren: Reed, Scarlett, and Camille Ewing, Lydia and Wesley
Banachowski, and Sammi and Paige Miear.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of three charities that were important to
Bob.
