Roy Cameron Baker

On April 21, 1937, a beautiful child was born to Russell Sr. and Annie Allen Baker. They called him Roy C. Baker. Roy passed away in the presence of family on January 30, 2022.
Roy started plumbing in 1955 where he went on to mentor many young men in the trade. He later began building cabins and became a master cabin builder. Roy spent many days with the children and grandchildren teaching them how to run the heavy equipment and build cabins. He often would take the children with him to work where they would drive the fork lift, with him on the platform. Roy’s cabins and rock masonry were truly a work of art that he loved to show off to anyone who would take time to look. If you rode with Roy after lunch for “just a quick look”, you would come back hours later smelling of sawdust and your shoes caked with mud after traipsing through undeveloped property. Roy would find the roughest land and walk the property for hours envisioning the cabin site overlooking a pond. With just himself and his bulldozer, that land would transform into a masterpiece.
As Roy got older, "he got that Parkinson’s. "He couldn’t run and climb like he used to." Roy went from building cabins to building log playhouses for his younger grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many happy hours were spent playing in the playhouses pretending to sell lemonade.
In his spare time, Roy was an avid golfer. You could find him every day at “his table” in Sheldon’s Restaurant conducting business and drawing plans on the menus. If he was not at Sheldon’s, Roy would happily announce that he was “sitting in the easy chair, laid back counting his money”. Roy loved to dance to old country music, especially George Jones. Roy would dance for hours only stopping when he was afraid that “the wood floors would catch fire” from all the friction. In his final days, Roy was at peace knowing that he would be in heaven where he wouldn’t have "that Parkinson’s" anymore.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his son Dale, great- great granddaughter Kylie and two of his brothers, Ed and Jack.
Roy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Faye Bennett Baker, his son Gary (Susanna), daughter Crystal (Michael), Michael (Kim), and Mark (Teresa). He is also survived by his grandchildren Kevin, Jason (Crystal), Laura, Kelli (Jacob), Autumn (Matt), Raegan, Kamryn, Emily, Carol Anne, Will, John (Jessi), and Thomas (Heather). Great grandchildren Caitlyn (Patrick), Evan, Gabriella, Emily, Kevin, Peyton, Ian, Hayley, Lauren, Avery, Olivia, McKennon, Kenley ,Waylon, Saylor and Gemma. One great-great granddaughter, Audrey, sisters Peggy, Doris, Nancy, Margaret, brothers Russell Jr., Larry (Debbie) and many nieces and nephews.
