Stanley Ammons was born on May 31, 1928, in Greensboro, North Carolina,
to Bessie Hoyle and Jacob Allen Ammons. He graduated from Hickory High
School in 1946 and shortly afterwards was part of US Army Occupation Force
stationed in Yokohama, Japan where he oversaw the motor pool.
Back in Hickory Stan met and married Peggy Kale on October 3, 1949. Stan and
Peggy had two children Susan and Stan Jr in 1950 and 1952, respectively. Stan was
devoted to his family. In 1956 the family moved to Hampton, Virginia.
Stan chose a career in the optical field and over the years owned and operated
several optical dispensing stores throughout Virginia including Farmville Vision
Center in Farmville. The stores were known for fair prices and quality of service.
Over time all of the stores were sold, and Stan and Peggy retired in Farmville. Stan
loved golf, reading, and exploring local Virginia historical sites.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents Jacob (1963) and Bessie (1979) and sisters
Velma, Veta, Blanche and brother Feryl. Stan was heartbroken when Peggy, his bride
of 63 years, passed away unexpectedly in 2012.
Stan is survived by his children Susan and Stan Jr and by three grandchildren, Molly
Ferguson, Ian Ammons, and Nathan Ammons.
