Stephen C. Keith, of Farmville Virginia, born on April 24, 1949, passed away on July 23, 2024. He leaves behind his widow, Joyce Wright Keith, and two sisters, Lesa Casto and Melody Blaney. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Hope Keith.
Stephen earned a Bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology from Kent State University in Ohio and later a Master’s and Doctorate degree in education from the University of Virginia. He dedicated his career to education. He started teaching in Buckingham County in 1971, where he remained until he took an administrative position in Prince Edward County Public Schools. From there, he moved to Longwood University and retired as a tenured professor in 2019. As a licensed speech pathologist, he continued his work post-retirement, impacting many lives with his expertise and compassion.
During his tenure at Longwood University, Stephen was known for his diverse teaching portfolio, supervision of student teachers, and passion for International Education. His work took him to Honduras, China, England, and Ireland, enriching the lives of students and educators globally. He was a strong supporter of public education.
An active member of his community, Stephen was involved with organizations such as FACES Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity. He was a life member of the Jaycees. He served on the Centra Board of Directors and, before that, on the Southside Community Hospital Board of Directors for a combined service of almost 30 years, contributing significantly to community health and welfare.
Stephen deeply loved the outdoors, enjoying activities such as hiking, spelunking, and yard work. He cherished his time with his nieces and nephews, who fondly called him Uncle TT, and the time spent with the FNG.
His colleagues, friends, and family admired, respected, and loved Stephen. His legacy of dedication, kindness, and service will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
There will be a celebration of Stephen's life on Sunday, July 28, 2024 between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 PM at the Three Roads Brewery, 312 West Third Street, Farmville, Virginia.
