Virginia Smith Henderlite

Virginia Smith Henderlite, 91 of Richmond passed away Friday, December 4, 2009 in Richmond. She was born May 13, 1918 in Morgan County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late James H. and Virginia C. Smith. She went to Montreat College for two years where she earned her associate degree. She was appointed missionary to Brazil in 1948. She graduated from Presbyterian School of Christian Education in 1953. She served as a Missionary for 44 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Langdon M. Henderlite; siblings, Maclin McCarty Smith, James Hoge Smith, Jr., Margaret Nall Smith, Frederick Andrew Smith and Martha Caroline Smith Garvin and her stepsons, Hunter F. Henderlite and Langdon M. Henderlite, Jr.
She is survived by her stepson, Courtney F. Henderlite of Richmond, her sister, Janet Ruth Smith Park of Dade City, Florida, sister-in-law, Lena Madison Smith of Skipwith, Virginia, six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009 1:00PM at Westview Cemetery in Farmville. Family will receive friends Tuesday 11:00-12:30PM at the Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hanover Presbyterian Church, 10058 Chamberlain Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
