Wilford Carroll Hedrick

Wilford Carroll Hedrick, 86, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary Smith Hedrick.

Born in Sevierville, Tennessee on October 10, 1924, Mr. Hedrick was a life-long resident of Cumberland, and most recently of Brookview Lodge, Farmville. A loving husband, father, brother and friend to many, Wilford proudly served his country during World War II. He worked hard as a farmer at the family farm on Route 45 and later enjoyed his career at Southern States Cooperative in Cumberland. Wilford was a member of Tar Wallet Baptist Church and was also an ordained Deacon. His quiet presence, supportive spirit and dedication to those he loved and cared for will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Wilford is survived by two sons, John Hedrick and wife, Judy of Charlotte Co., Ralph Hedrick and wife, Diane of Rice; two daughters, Peggy H. Recker of Warrenton and Cindy Hedrick of Rice; one brother, James Hedrick and wife, Crystal of Sevierville, TN; two sisters, Eleanor Langford and Frances Hodges both of Plant City, FL; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday in Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cumberland.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Legion in memory of Wilford Carroll Hedrick.
